London Gets Economic Boost Ontairo Help City Revamp Local Manufacturing Sector

NEWS January 20, 2010

LONDON – Khalil Ramal, MPP London Fanshawe and his London colleagues Deb Matthews,

MPP London North Centre and Chris Bentley, MPP London West, announced Ontario is

helping London to attract business investment from European manufacturers’, to create jobs

in the City of London.

The province is investing $497,000 in the London Economic Development Corporation for

three initiatives to help secure direct European investment in the region’s manufacturing

sector:

London Regional Manufacturing Council will be starting a pilot project that will reduce the

cost of adapting European manufacturing technology to Canadian electrical standards.

German-based auto parts manufacturer Brose will be ensuring a new high-tech precision

laser cutter being installed at the London facility meets CSA approved standards.

Local parts suppliers will capitalize on opportunities to supply auto manufacturer

Volkswagen in North America.

The new equipment at Brose’s London facility will lead to the immediate creation of 10 new

advanced manufacturing jobs and create significant additional jobs through 2011.

Funding is being provided under the Communities in Transition program which supports

economic development projects that will help communities in Ontario attract new investments

and retain existing businesses.
